Avoid a wedding day disaster. Lesson for all brides.....choose your makeup artist wisely!

Recently I met a lovely bride-to-be who had booked her wedding makeup trial with me. What was unusual about this bride was that she had not yet committed to booking me for her wedding day. This is not something I come across often. Most of my brides commit themselves to booking me for their wedding and, to secure my services, pay their deposit up front.

Upon meeting this bride, the reason for her out-of-the-norm behaviour became clear. A makeup trial with another makeup artist left her seriously disillusioned and overly cautious about securing a new makeup artist. When I dug deeper, the words 'dry cakey skin' and 'I looked about 60 years old' were used to describe her experience! No wonder the girl was disenchanted.  This kind of experience has put many a girl off going to a professional makeup artist. And for me, that is quite worrying.

Makeup artists like that give the good ones a bad rep! My bride was quite reluctant to commit to anything past the trial due to her previous experience. And who’d blame her. I think it was fair to say; I needed to impress and restore her faith in makeup artists!!

And do you know what I did to impress her? I provided the exact same service I would to any other bride. We discussed her skincare regime. I listened to her concerns. I gave her lots of advice in the run up to her wedding. I discussed her ideas about what she wanted and I took her through a very gradual process of building up a makeup application that she was happy with. And she was happy.....very happy.

Her previous experience paled into insignificance after seeing what was possible and how beautiful she could look on her special day. She couldn’t believe two makeup artists could achieve such a different result.  In fact, she was shocked her skin could look so glowing and her eyes so defined. Needless to say, her relief was evident and her stress levels much reduced.

Moral of the story.....

• If you haven't seen examples of your chosen makeup artist's work, ASK for them!

• If you don't feel comfortable with the result....TELL them

• Have photos of looks you like to hand at your trial because as a makeup artist it can be difficult to interpret someone's ideas

• Ask friends for RECOMMENDATIONS, they will always give you an honest review

• Check if your chosen makeup artist has a website and read up about them.  You can get a good feel for a makeup artist from their website.

Makeup should be the last thing you need to worry about on your wedding day. Do your research and if you are still unsure about your makeup artist, ask for a meeting before you commit to anything.

Happy wedding day.

Until next time.....
