False Lashes....Yay or Nay?

If you're surrounded by people with long, luscious, black lashes and find it hard to apply them yourself, I hope this step by step guide will help you achieve the same!

For me, strip lashes are the easiest to apply to yourself so...

Here's how I create the perfect false lashes!

  • Firstly, I would complete my eye makeup and pencil eye liner before applying my strip lashes.
  • Measure the strip lash against your eye BEFORE you add the glue. If the lash is too long/wide, trim with scissors to give you the perfect size.
  • Using the pencil eye liner as a guide, pop some glue along the ‘spine’ of the strip lash and wait about 30-60 seconds to allow the glue to become tacky (this will help with the application).
  • Using tweezers, guide the lashes along your lash line (as close as you can get to your eye) and press gently into place to secure.
  • Open your eye carefully and make any adjustments with your eyes open. Be careful not to use too much glue.  Please Note:  If you have never worn lashes before, I would always recommend doing a patch test of the glue beforehand (ideally 24 hours before).
  • Once you are happy with the placement, use liquid eye liner along your upper eye line to blend the false lashes. This will also help conceal the ‘spine’ of the lashes.
  • Finish your eye makeup with a coat of black mascara and voila you are ready to party!

If strip eyelashes aren't for you, there are other options available also.

Many of my brides choose semi-permanent eyelash extensions for their wedding. This treatment can take up to 2 hours to apply as they involve placing individual false lashes to existing eyelashes. The results can last up to 90 days and require infills every 2-3 weeks (similar to having nail extensions). This service is perfect for brides who require a more natural look and will last right through to their honeymoon. You can allow these lashes to fall out naturally or have them removed professionally when you come back from your holiday!

Personally, I think strip lashes are quick and easy and with a little practice can give a fantastic result.

If in doubt about the type of lashes to choose, always go for the most natural variety and you can always work up from there. There are no prizes for looking like a drag queen on your first attempt!

Until next time…..
