Money Saving Tips, 10 ways to save money on your makeup products.

If you’re looking to save money on makeup, toiletries, and other beauty products then look no further.  Here are some cool tips to help you cut down your cosmetics budget, and save.

  • Bottom out your products!

An easy way to reach the last reservoir of product left in the bottom of a tubed item is to simply cut off the bottom of the tube - about an inch and a half down.  You’ll be very surprised by how much more is in there and can use your cut off piece as the new lid until you finish the last dregs!

  • Protect your Brushes

To keep your brushes in tip top shape you need to clean them regularly. A good set of brushes is a worthwhile investment when you take care for them correctly year on year. Use a brush shampoo with warm water to cleanse and treat your brushes.

  • Bacteria free, lasting moisturiser

By using small spatulas to lift out your moisturiser you not only ensure you use only what you need but it’s also a more hygienic way of putting your moisturiser on.  Gone are the days of just dipping your fingers in and out of the pot!

  • Get the right foundation from the outset

If you’ve already wasted money on the wrong foundation colour in the past then you won’t want to let it happen again.  It’s too costly a mistake!  Ensure you test a new foundation on your cheek or jaw line in natural light. This will help you to choose the correct colour for your skin tone every time.  I think everyone I know has bought the wrong foundation at one time or another but this is how to ensure it doesn’t happen again!

  • Mascara saver alert!

If you’ve found the perfect mascara brush/wand but can’t afford the product every time, here’s a nifty trick – Remove the wand, clean it and use with a cheaper brand of mascara.  In most mascara products it’s the brush/wand that actually gives the effects you want (e.g. lengthening, volumising etc) and not the product itself.  Cool, eh?

  • Make your lipstick last longer

Ok, so this is a no-brainer, you simply need to apply your lipstick with a lip brush. You’ll use less product and get a more precise application to boot!

  • Samples, Samples, Samples!

It’s not always easy to find the right product to suit you so instead of wasting money on products that just aren’t right, ask for samples before you buy. This is a great way to save money and reduce wastage (not to mention space!).

  • Don’t underestimate the value of coupons (or vouchers for that matter)

We all hoard coupons and often forget about vouchers we’ve received.  It’s always a good idea to use these for more expensive items so you don’t end up forking out for big ticket items just to get your favourite moisturiser again.  Go on, check your purse….you may find a hidden Boots voucher there that could save you anything from £3 - £5.

  • Drop a few hints!

The ultimate way to save money is to just ask a loved one to buy you what you need.  They’re probably struggling for ideas anyway so you’ll be helping them out…a lot!  Make a list of your ‘must have’ products and discreetly pass this list to family and friends before your birthday or in the run up to Christmas.  Simple!

  • Be selective

If you don’t wear a lot of makeup but can’t leave the house without mascara then put your budget into a great mascara.  When more funds become available, you can then get whatever else you need.  Chances are you weren’t going to use them anyway and might as well let your eyes to the talking!

Until next time......
