Summer is here.....kinda!

Whether you are just using everyday skin products, fake tan or makeup, skin preparation is key. It makes sense to prepare a bedroom wall before you paint it, doesn’t it? Try to think of your skin needing this ‘prep work’ before you apply any skincare products.

Exfoliating the skin regularly helps to buff away any dry dead skin and allows other products to be absorbed more deeply; resulting in a much better effect. I love Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant as it warms on the skin as you apply and feels amazing. The result? Smoother, fresher skin in an instant! Exfoliate once a week for oily/combination skin and twice a week for a more dry complexion. Remember to re-hydrate afterwards with a nourishing moisturiser.

As you countdown towards your holiday, try and take a little extra care of your skin. Using a good moisturiser prior to going away and a high SPF lotion while you are away, will go a long way to protecting your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. I strongly recommend using a face moisturiser with at least an SPF15 every day, regardless of whether the sun is shining or not!

There is no better ‘pick me up’ than using a little fake tan! If you haven’t tried it before, you should give it a go.  You will be amazed at how good you will feel after applying it.  And the best bit…… no damage to the skin! If you don’t feel confident doing this yourself then book in for a professional spray tan. Always check with the professional what pre-treatment preparation you need to do prior to the tan being applied. This usually involves exfoliating face and body beforehand. Clean, dry skin is also a must.

Now that you have post-holiday glowing skin (or you have faked it with a spray tan) how should you care for your skin? Here are some top tips!

1.Keep your skin well hydrated to prevent it drying out.

2.Use minimal makeup, a little mascara and coral lip gloss should set your tan off perfectly

3.Remove all traces of makeup at night and use an extra hydrating face oil to work its magic overnight.

If you really fancy adding an extra glow to the skin, here are two of my favourite products.

Splurge: Sisley’s L’Orchidée (£60 Harrods)

This beautiful blush highlighter colours and enhances your complexion. It’s a trio of ultra-luminous shades especially designed to beautify and sculpt the face. 3 soft, slightly pearly, shades refract the light and give you a natural sunny glow.

…or for a more budget-friendly option try:

Save: Benefit Moon Beam £18.50

This is a golden apricot liquid that illuminates cheek and brow bones and adds a warm shimmer to your complexion. It looks perfectly radiant on all skin tones. It can be used as a highlighter or mixed with your foundation to give a warm luminous glow all over. What more could you ask for!

Enjoy your summer ladies!
